Intermediate level
As students progress into an intermediate level, the teacher will start to introduce a much wider range of repertoire on top of the Suzuki pieces. This includes Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th Century, Jazz, and New Zealand music. The music they are playing is starting to become more complex and fascinating. A piece perhaps tells a story, or appeals to emotions, or mimics a characterful dance or evokes a landscape scenery... the discoveries are becoming endless!
At this stage, the studio encourages its students to start participating in ensemble playing - whether it is playing a duet with another student, or joining a choir at school. The social aspect of piano playing is extremely important to keep young pianists musically enriched and satisfied.

Advanced level
Students venturing into advance levels will start to establish some advanced piano technique as well as new genres of music such as Oriental, Latin, French and Spanish music. Students may wish to begin playing in school orchestras and bands, or start their own chamber music group with other proficient young musicians. This is an exciting time for the student - more and more often they are studying original "master pieces" by great composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and Prokofiev. Their advancing technique and musicianship will allow them to produce the touch, sound, timbre, speed and ambience needed for such works. The music they play will start to move the listener the way only a great piece of music performed by a outstanding pianist can.
The studio is committed to support each student to reach this level of playing, and Melody believes with the right teaching strategies, suitable environment and commitment from the student, every child can achieve it.
